Grades 3-7. Teachers and students use professionally prepared guides to study food chains from regurgitated owl pellets. This kit provides excitement for students to investigate the diets of owls as birds of prey. The pellets are easily dissected to expose the skulls and other skeletal parts. The undigested remains of animals provide bones, teeth, hair, or feathers as evidence of the prey animals. Charts of skulls and skeletons are available to assist students to identify the prey animals. Additional exercises can be conducted such as reconstructing animal skeletons or construction of food chains from the skeletons found in the pellets. Safe for student use, this kit contains 15 dried and fumigated owl pellets wrapped in aluminum, 15 student work sheets, and a teacher’s guide.
